The project is focused to develop a hospital assistance' resource manager based on identification and localization technologies in real time. The result that will be obtained of this project will be tested into the Hospital General de Vic, and there will be also tested an active RFID technology developed by the Technological Centre of i2cat Foundation.
Elements of innovation and research more relevant
The main objective of this project is to integrate into the same platform different network environments that will be focussed to achieve all the functionalities required to develop and implement this project. It will be implemented a MESH network where the technological innovation is that it generates automatically new routes because is using a modified definition protocol to allow the specifications of the project. This flexibility will allow to increase the net without an additional cost, and will be prepared to interact with existing or future networks into the hospital. It will be possible to send bidirectional messaging and also will allow localization using the energy received in each RFID device that will be used to triangulate and obtain the position inside the coverage network radius.
This project will be implemented into the Hospital General de Vic and will cover an area of spread little villages that are placed far from the urban centres. This area is also poor in elders' assistance residences. After being tested will be extended to other similar areas with the same conditions. The target of this project is the part of the population that relates to the older ones. Elderly people are the ones that spends more time as a patient inside hospitals.
The main technological innovation that implies the execution of this project is to adapt existing active RFID systems to health sector, and first of all introduce it into hospitals that will offer advanced services. Main technological points are:
- Implement a platform that integrates active RFID devices into different network environments.
- Precise and secure identification system. The system will identify exactly each element inside the network: patients, hospital workers and hospital equipment and material.
- This system will locate all elements that incorporates RFID devices at anytime, 24 hours 7 days a week, and will also trace the routes followed by each element.
- Communication system between hospital workers based on integrated messages and alarms. This system will be bidirectional, and will offer messages to answer by the hospital workers with their terminals.
- Intelligent alert system to help workers doing their jobs.
Current issue
Health assistance, and in this case Hospital assistance, is one of the main pillars of the social welfare state. This new service will allow the inhabitants to feel that their Government is investing money to maintain a high level of health assistance into whatever the case that affect to them can be: case of an accident, illness or chronicle illness. From the point of view of a necessary service this project will improve the social assistance that the patient can feel.
