In today's global world, generating new knowledge and turning it into new products and services is crucial to maintain and enhance the business' competitiveness.
According to the Lisbon Strategy set out by the European Commission, Universities and Research Centers, as main actors in generating knowledge from their R & D activities, must play an important role in the economic development of the Knowledge Society.
The Technology Transfer department coordinates and fosters activities designed to facilitate the knowledge transfer of the results achieved from the R&D developements carried out by the different i2CAT clusters, with the aim that these results can be exploited and commercialized in the industry market.
The main activities of the Technology Transfer department are involved in the following topics:
R&D results evaluation
- Analysis and management of the background knowledge
- Inventory of the Technology catalog
Intellectual Property Rights management
- Define policies and rules to protect the IP rights
- Establish software licensing strategies
- Establish patent policies
R&D results valorisation
- Identify and evaluate the marketability options of the results
- Promote the execution of valorisation projects to reduce the gap between the results and the market
- Support to prepare Business Plans regarding the technologies to be valorized
Technology transfer from research to market
- Promote the creation of technology-based spin-off
- Negotiate licensing contracts with industry
- Improve the close collaboration with the industry to carry out R&D projects on demand
